Lady Gaga Slams President Donald Trump In Grammy Speech

Lady Gaga called out President Donald Trump while accepting an award at the 2025 Grammys. Throughout the evening, many people made references to recent Trump policies or comments.

For example, both the Grammys’ host Trevor Noah and performer Shakira made comments about immigration.

However, perhaps the strongest call out came from Lady Gaga. This notable moment occurred when Lady Gaga was accepting the Grammy Award with Bruno Mars for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance for their song “Die With a Smile.”

During her acceptance speech, Gaga took the time to send love to the trans community. “Trans people are not invisible,” she said. “Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love.”

Gaga didn’t specifically talk about Trump by name. However, she didn’t need to. Everyone at the awards ceremony — and everyone online — knew exactly who she was speaking about.

Trump has long attacked the trans community. While running for president last year, he ran on many policies that LGBTQ+ activists said would harm trans people around the country.

Now that he has reentered the White House, Trump made many moves during his first week against trans and nonbinary people.

Most notably, Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office stating that the United States only recognized two genders: male and female.

Many were quick to applaud Gaga’s message and her calling out of the president. While the audience erupted in cheers during the ceremony, the pop star’s speech also quickly went viral on X.

Gaga has long been a supporter of trans rights and is a part of the LGBTQ+ community. She also hasn’t been shy in her disapproval of Trump.

Just last week, she opened up about how she didn’t want him to win the election, and she “prayed” he would lose to Vice President Kamala Harris.

In this recent interview, Gaga explained how Trump won’t be able to tear the trans and LGBTQ+ communities apart.

“This just reminds me that we need each other and supporting each other is important. I am one of many people that supports [the LGBTQ and other marginalized] communities. And we’re not going down without a fight,” she declared.

Gaga also added, “We will stick together. It’s going to be hard but I’m up for it. We’re up for it. And I just want everyone to know how deeply they’re loved and not invisible.”

Gaga wasn’t the only one to stick up for trans rights at the Grammys. Chappell Roan also subtly called out Trump while discussing how “brutal” it currently was in America for LGBTQ+ people.

On the red carpet before the event, Roan said, “Trans people have always existed and they will forever exist, and they will never, no matter what happens, take trans joy away.”

Roan also added, “I would not be here without trans girls, so just know that pop music is thinking about you and cares about you, and I’m trying my best to stand up for you in every way that I can.”

The 2025 Grammys ceremony marks the first major awards show to take place since Trump has become president.

Throughout much of his first term, many Hollywood award shows were filled with people calling out the president.

In recent years, under President Joe Biden’s reign, fewer callouts were seen as they tended to be Democrats

However, now that Trump is back in the White House, award shows may once again feature musicians and actors publicly disagreeing or showing defiance with Donald Trump.
