Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Under Fire Over Trump Super Bowl Comment
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has come under fire by some after he made comments about President Donald Trump attending the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game in New Orleans on Sunday.
Trump recently revealed that he would be attending the game, making him the first sitting U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl.
While Kelce was speaking to a pool of reporters this week, he was asked about Trump potentially attending the game. Kelce stated that this would be “pretty cool.”
“That’s awesome,” he said to journalists. “It’s a great honor.”
Kelce went on to say that this is the biggest game of his life, and to have the president of the United States there would be exciting.
“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world,” he said. “So, that’d be pretty cool.”

Many left-leaning Americans weren’t happy to hear these comments, especially as many are concerned about Trump’s moves since reentering the White House earlier this year. However, Swifties loudly called out the tight end for this statement.
Kelce is dating pop star Taylor Swift. Recently, Swift has been no friend of Trump’s. In fact, things got so bad between the then-former president and the world’s biggest pop star that Trump wrote “I hate Taylor Swift” on Truth Social.
Trump’s dislike of Swift stemmed from the global star endorsing then-Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Swift waited until after Harris and Trump held their debate.
Then, she posted an Instagram post explaining why she was voting for Harris, and then encouraged her many fans to ensure they were properly registered to vote.
At the time, Swift wrote, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Trump was quick to attack Swift for this. He told Fox News that he “was not a Taylor Swift fan.”
The president also insinuated that Swift’s endorsement of Harris would end up harming her career, saying that “she’ll probably pay a price for it.”
Swift also found herself against Trump after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, liked Trump 2024 posts on Instagram. Outrage from Swifties was quick to follow. Trump commented, ”I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth.”
As Swift and Mahomes seemed to have become close friends, many Swifties took issue with this drama.
Now, Swift fans have publicly called out Kelce for saying he’d be honored to have Trump watch him play in the Super Bowl — especially as Trump has repeatedly gone after Swift in the past. Here are some of the responses from Swifties:
Others have come to Kelce’s defense, explaining that the tight end may have been giving a media-trained answer, and that he was trying to not be political, especially since Kansas City Chief’s owner Clark Hunt ans his family are known Trump supporters.
Regardless, this analysis seemingly hasn’t been enough for some Swifties and want Taylor Swift to break him with a “spineless” man if he doesn’t want to stand up for his girlfriend. Whether this mean something significant for their relationship, we have to wait and see.
