Tyler Perry recently confirmed that Sister Act 3 is still in the works and moving forward. He expressed his excitement about the project, acknowledging that it’s been a long time coming.
During a recent interview, Perry expressed some frustration with the time it’s taking, saying, “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long, like I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this,” according to ET Online.
The journey began back in November 2018 when Tyler Perry and Whoopi Goldberg discussed the idea on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. Two years later, Disney officially announced the project, with Goldberg set to reprise her iconic role and Perry coming on board as a producer.
The cast of Sister Act 3 may feature stars like Lizzo and Keke Palmer, and there’s an effort to reunite original cast members for a special celebration on The View marking the 30th anniversary of Sister Act 2. Goldberg also reached out to Sheryl Lee Ralph to come back.
Moreover, Perry emphasized the importance of getting everything right for the film.
“Well, just making sure we have the right writers, the right script, the right story, [and] all of those things are so important because it’s such an important, iconic film. We want to make sure we do it justice and do it well, so we’re willing to wait for the right script.”
